ALLIES FOR ULURU

Uluru Statement

YES whiteRed (1)

Good afternoon,

Thank you to everyone who joined our fourth Allies for Uluru Working Group meeting on Tuesday 20 June.

It was a vibrant and energetic discussion focused on collaboration as well as how to begin and deepen state and sector-based mobilising. We heard from Yes23 National Organising Director Emily Holm about all of the community activity underway and met five of the newly appointed Yes23 State Co-ordinators, who shared their plans for Come Together for Yes day on 2 July.

We also heard from Cath Bradley and Chris Black of Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) about the prolific activating they are engaging in within their existing networks of 1,600 staff and 100,000 supporters, including delivering Kitchen Table Conversations, developing resource packs and developing a story walk for Thomas Mayo's latest children's book. These and other fantastic ideas to inspire other organisations are available below in their powerpoint slides. BSL also recently held a webinar on Engaging Multicultural Communities, which is available to watch here

Yes23 updates

  • The major ask from the Yes campaign is to sign and share their Vote Yes pledge
  • It is important for us not to buy into the 'No' campaign framing – this is a ‘convince the undecided campaign’
  • If 1 in 10 Yes supporters convinced 2 other people, we would be in the majority position
  • Following passage of the Bill through Parliament yesterday we can now move the conversation away from politics and into communities
  • New Yes merchandise shop is now up and running. There will also be a 'back of house' shop for orgs to access bulk orders through coordinators.
